The persistence of memory

Did you have the impression that the Edies remembered the past more or less correctly?

No, I don’t think they do. It looked like they spent most of their time rehashing just a few episodes. So I imagine that most of their past has been forgotten or is at least rather fuzzy. Likewise, going over the same bits again and again over the years will keep a few memories sharp, but these memories will change with time since memory gets restored after each recall. There was a tension between the two women over differences in what they thought had happened and even more over what they thought those events meant.

They had some old photos and letters. These kinds of objective references might have limited how much their memory drifted into a made-up world of their own devising.
