Cyranoes
This is the only version of Cyrano de Bergerac that I know. I have not seen any other movie versions, I have not seen the play, and I have not read the play. Do any of you know any other versions? If so, how do they compare? I read a review that said this was not the best film version, but that it was worth watching because José Ferrer was so good.

For a more modern take, you might check out "Roxanne," with Steve Martin and Daryl Hannah.
Ben, I saw the movie last night. Nice pick! I will start commenting at lunch or after work today.
This was my first "Cyrano," but I LOVE "Roxanne." Steve Martin at his best. It's a sillier, slapstick version of "Cyrano," but the story still works. And I think Steve Martin was channeling Jose Ferrer in some scenes.
I've never seen Roxanne, but I've heard it's good.
And I wouldn't be surprised if Steve Martin took things from past versions to make it even more entertaining for himself and for audience members who had seen past versions.
Haven't been able to see Cyrano yet. Christy's loaning me her copy.
